Dr. Bauer is a general internist, translational epidemiologist, and clinician investigator with a primary care practice based at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC). His academic focus is to research patient-reported outcomes, prognostic biomarkers, and biological mechanisms of debilitating urinary symptoms in older adults. His areas of research expertise include geriatric urology, lifestyle risk factors, and longitudinal assessment of biomarkers and quality of life outcomes.

Dr. Mackin is a clinical neuropsychologist and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. His program of research is focused on structural and functional brain abnormalities associated with accelerated cognitive decline in older adults with depression. He currently splits his time at the SF VA Medical Center where he sees patients and is running research at UCSF within the LLD lab.

Dr. Mackin completed his undergraduate degree from Dickinson College, his Masters from West Chester University, and his PhD from Penn State. He completed his neuropsychology internship at the Medical University of South Carolina and his fellowship at the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center. He has held a faculty position at UCSF since 2003.

Dr. Lee is interested in determining how long after a preventive intervention (such as cancer screening) the benefits are seen to identify older adults who are likely (or unlikely) to benefit from a preventive intervention.

Dr. Maguen's research interests fall under the general umbrella of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They include risk and resilience factors in veterans; female veterans and mental health; moreal injury; and coping with the ongoing threat of terrorism in countries such as Israel.

Dr. Massa's work has a direct bearing on the potential development of new strategies for rehabilitation following neurological injury or disease. Neurotrophins have shown great promise in the laboratory as treatments for a variety of nervous system disorders. However, they have a number of properties that render them unfavorable for drug development. Dr. Massa and his collaborators have identified a number of new drug-like compounds that modulate receptors of specific neurotrophins in nerve and other brain cells.
