African Stroke Organization Conference (ASOC)

Travel Awards for Early Stage Investigators

In partnership with the African Stroke Organization and National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, ASOC 2021 will provide Travel Awards for Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) in Africa to encourage and support their efforts in the field of stroke research. These travel funds will permit selected ESIs to attend the inaugural African Stroke Organization Conference currently scheduled for on July 16-17, 2021 in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. ASOC is a multidisciplinary scientific forum with the overarching goal of overarching goal of bringing together key stakeholders, identifying gaps in knowledge, setting priorities for stroke prevention, care delivery & research, & accelerating translation of research findings to improve stroke outcomes in Africa.  ESIs will receive travel stipends to attend ASOC, learn about contemporary stroke science from renowned experts, present their own stroke research work at a dedicated poster session, and participate in career development sessions. 

Prize

  • Several awards ($1,300 each) for conference travel will be made to ESIs. 

  • Comp registration to ASOC 2021. 

 

Evaluation Criteria

  • All abstracts submitted for this award will be evaluated for scientific merit by a review committee. Notification of the competition results will be made in late-May 2021

    • A supporting statement from the applicant's mentor. This should include:​

      • why this candidate should receive an ASOC ESI award.​

      • the applicant's role in designing executing, and analyzing the research in the submitted abstract.

    • A complete curriculum vitae, including bibliography.

  • Your submission materials should include documentation that clearly demonstrates that you are Working in Stroke Research and meet the definition of an Early Stage Investigator as defined by:

  • Be in training as an Undergraduate, Doctoral Student, Resident (Registrar) or Fellow, Post-doctoral Scholar OR​...
  • Be an individual within the first 3 years of their first university faculty appointment.

  • Application form, abstracts and supporting documents must be submitted by April 30, 2021.
